Chief Financial Officer – Waco Africa
Gregory Slabbert started his career with the Group as the Accounting Manager of then subsidiary, Continental Tyres and this was followed by fulfilling the positions of Group Accountant and then Group Executive – both at Waco International.
Greg currently fulfills the position of Chief Financial Officer of Waco Africa, a position he has held since April 2004. Gregory holds a B Com (UPE) and B Compt Honours (Unisa) CA (SA).
Commercial Director – Waco Africa
John was born in Cowdenbeath, Scotland and graduated from Edinburgh University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1980.
John has extensive civil engineering experience, having worked for leading civil contracting companies including Murray and Roberts, Goldstein, Franki Africa, Concor and Group Five. He spent a year in Scotland working for Edmund Nuttall, before returning to South Africa. He took up the position of Commercial Director with the Waco Group in 2010.
Divisional Director
Kobus was Operational Director at Cape Contracts for five years. This followed a career of 20 years at Eskom, most of the time in a management position (ie Production Manager, Electrical Maintenance Manager and Outage Manager).
After the amalgamation with SGB, Kobus was appointed as Managing Director from 2008 to 2012 at SGB-Cape. Kobus is currently Director of Power, Painting and Insulation. His qualifications include MBL, B.Comm, GCC, NHD Elect Eng.
Divisional Director
Louis is a chartered accountant by profession and joined the Waco group in 1999. He served in various financial roles throughout the Waco group which included Project Accountant at Waco International (2 years), Financial Analyst at Waco USA (5 years), Financial Manager at Waco Africa (2 years) and Group Financial Manager at Waco International (5 years).
He was appointed as Divisional Director of SGB-Cape Inland Region in 2013.
Estimating Manager
Nathan started with Cape Contracts painting division in 2000 as an Estimator. He joined Waco Africa through the acquisition of Cape Contracts in 2006.
Nathan was appointed Estimating Manager of SGB-Cape in 2008 and has been instrumental in the awarding of mega projects such as Kusile Power Station Scaffolding.
Nathan has a NACE level 1 and a Certificate in Structural Mechanics from the University of Pretoria.
HR Executive – Waco Africa
Peter Mathapo is the HR Executive for Waco Africa, a position he has held since 2017. Prior to joining Waco Africa, he occupied, amongst others, senior HR positions in the following industries: Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, IT and Security.
Peter holds an Industrial Psychology Degree from Turfloop, an Honours in Industrial Psychology from Unisa and a MBA from the University of Pretoria.
Procurement Manager
Shane joined Waco Africa in January 2005 as the Factory Admin Manager. Shane oversees procurement for 4 out of the 5 divisions of Waco – SGB-Cape, Form-Scaff, Abacus Space Solutions and Skyjacks.
Shane is also Waco Africa’s B-BBEE champion, ensuring that Waco continually improves on their B-BBEE scorecard.
Shane has qualifications in ND Internal Auditing and a CIPS Professional Diploma. He is a member of the Charted Institute of Procurement & Supply.
Divisional Director (Coastal Region)
Shane started with Cape Contracts in 1998 and joined Waco Africa through the acquisition of Cape Contracts in 2006. He had held a number of senior positions in SGB-Cape including Branch Manager (Richards Bay & Durban), Regional Manager (KZN) and Commercial Manager (Coastal Region).
Shane has a diploma in Project Management and was appointed Divisional Director (Coastal Region) in May 2015.
Operations Director – Power Division “Project Management”
Tinus started his career with Cape Contracts and joined the Waco group in 1997 where he completed numerous projects including Majuba Power Station build, Arnot RTS and the Grootvlei Power Station Return to Service project.
Tinus was appointed Regional Director in 2006 for the Power Region and Operations Director of the Power Division in 2012. His primary task is the growth and technical support of SGB-Cape’s “insulation services”.
SGB-Cape is part of Waco International, a focused equipment rental and industrial services business with operations in Africa (South Africa and other sub-Saharan African countries), Australasia (Australia and New Zealand) and the United Kingdom.
The Group provides services in the areas of formwork, shoring and scaffolding, insulation, painting and blasting, hydraulic and suspended access platforms, relocatable modular buildings, portable sanitation products and integrated hygiene services.
